Why our copies actually work
A key copied from a copy of a copy drifts a little each generation. Each version is cut from an already-worn original, the errors compound, and one day the key that "always kind of stuck" stops turning entirely, usually in the rain.
We cut on calibrated machines and, when a key is visibly worn, we can cut back to the factory code instead of duplicating the wear. You get a key that matches the lock, not one that matches your old key.
If a key we cut doesn't work, bring it back. We'll make it right at the counter.
Bring us the ones nobody else could do
Wichita has a lot of old buildings, and old buildings have old locks. Downtown offices, Riverside and College Hill homes, churches, farm equipment, grandfather's desk. When a kiosk says "no match found," that usually means the blank isn't in its tray, not that the key can't be made.
We keep walls of blanks, including keyways discontinued decades ago, plus the code books and the machines to originate a key when there's nothing left to copy. Bring the key, or bring the whole lock if the key is gone.
Common questions about key cutting
How much does a key cost?
Standard house and business keys are a few dollars each. Specialty, high-security, and automotive keys vary quite a bit. We quote at the counter before we cut, always.
Can you copy a key marked "do not duplicate"?
Those words by themselves aren't a legal restriction, but genuinely restricted and patented keyways are, and we honor them: those get copied only with the system owner's authorization. If you're the owner, we make it easy.
I don't have the original key. Can you still make one?
Usually. We can originate from a code, from the lock itself, or by impressioning. Bring in the lock, or tell us what it's on and we'll tell you what we need.
Why won't my hardware store copy work?
Two usual reasons: the blank was close but not correct, or the machine duplicated an already worn key. Bring us both the original and the bad copy and we'll sort out which it was.
Do you cut keys for antique furniture and old doors?
Yes, this is one of our favorite kinds of walk-in. Skeleton keys, bit keys, desk and cabinet keys. Bring the piece or a clear photo of the lock.
How long does it take?
Standard keys take a couple of minutes at the counter. Originating a key from code or from the lock takes longer, and we'll tell you how long when you walk in.
